Re: Clusterbomb IPA
With a name like that....you don't have enough Cluster hops in there. Come on you two...jack up those IBU's some and start destroying your taste buds.
Just kidding....looks like a nice simple and tasty recipe.

Hopefully your not one of the people who think cluster smells like cat pee.

UH OH! I bet BB2 didn't know that when he ordered them. He ordered three ounces at a sale because "they were the original West Coast hop".
And I'm glad I din't do what BD suggested and add more hops/IBUs.
I've had a cat pee beer and was not pleased.
Time will tell.
Edit to add: forgot to add that this one was already mashing when Inkleg advised the lower mash temp.
I was going to ask about doing a sugar feeding to dry it out some based on the Itsabella thread now I'm not sure if I want to dry it out or if I even should dry hop it.
I really don't want 24 bottles of cat pee.

Re: Clusterbomb IPA
Cluster won't taste like any other IPA hop you've had, so without knowing how you perceive them I am not sure how to advise.
I've used them in steam beer as a total replacement for Northern Brewer - because as you say they were the "original" west coast hop, and that's what they would have used back in the day for a lot of beer. I liked it - although I do like Northern Brewer better.
But I am not one of those who thinks hops like it or Simcoe or Citra or others that I've heard folks say smell like cat pee to them think smells like cat pee personally.

Well I'll let you know what odor comes wafting out of the ice chest in a day or so.

Not nearly enough 2-Row. I would've gone with 2 pounds.Brewbirds wrote:

I'm not particularly crazy (IMO), and I don't rock-climb. It's just the name of a video game I used to like to play, back in the 80's.

Re: Clusterbomb IPA
Yeah I know HB3 this dawgawn little pot of mine can't handle the fire power to make a nice big IPA. Could have done it with more late extract I suppose but we had to hold back some LME because we didn't order enough for another recipe. BB2 was struggling with this one so I said to just make it an APA but he didn't want to so I guess it's a baby IPA.lets see hopbomb?? at 2 oz??? Nah you need at least 8 oz more like a little cap bang
For all you IPA makers out there about where do you end up for BU:GU in general and not for a kick your face hoppiness. Wait! Did I really just say that?

Yeah I deal with this kind of weird note taking on brew day a lot and as confused as I get sometimes we still amazingly manage to make beer without throwing heavy objects at each other.philm00x wrote:Crazy Climber wrote:Not nearly enough 2-Row. I would've gone with 2 pounds.Brewbirds wrote:

Re: Clusterbomb IPA
Well a Busch on steroids anyway. That is exactly what this tastes like. Fortunately no cat pee.
For those of you who have BMC drinking friends this could be retooled into a session beer to keep on hand for them (though just buying a twelve pack would be easier ).
Seriously though it isn't bad at all it is kind of refreshing but also a little dull. Lower the ABV and it would be a decent lawnmower beer.

Re: Clusterbomb IPA
It is a great looking beer. Nice color and lacing.

Re: Clusterbomb IPA
Thanks guys I'm not sure if I could describe it in the review section - it just tastes like beer. The hops are there but there isn't a flavor or aroma I can think of to describe them other than above.
It turned out well balanced I guess. Mashani scared me with that cat pee comment since I've heard hops described that way before, maybe it is you put in to much of them I don't know.
The ones we have aren't lawnmower beers that's for sure, I wouldn't want to do the weed eating after having a break with one of these.
