Aw Gee Willikers
I always read that your efficiency drops substantially when doing large grain bills. But HOLY CRAP! 1.082 for 15.5lbs of grain? I have gotten 1.080 with 12lbs of grain. I feel like I wasted 3.5lbs of Marris Otter. Next time I do a Wee Heavy I will just use 12lbs, get the same results, and save some money. And that would be swell.

I can't believe it. Not the efficiency, the use of "Aw Gee Willikers". Who says that? Is this Mayberry RFD? Green Acres? Gomer Pyle?
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

Referring to the efficiency of "The Beaver" using that line with Wally or Eddie? That does sound somewhat wasteful, but won't that cut down your overall volume?

How about, "okie dokie"? Even in Michagain you've had to hear that one quite a bit.RickBeer wrote:I can't believe it. Not the efficiency, the use of "Aw Gee Willikers". Who says that? Is this Mayberry RFD? Green Acres? Gomer Pyle?

Re: Aw Gee Willikers
Are you using the same mash ratio? I know that my tun can only hold so much, so my last brew I had a thicker ratio, and I noticed lower numbers.
Re: Aw Gee Willikers
Yes I used the same ratio. I used 6 gallons of water for 15.5 pounds of grain. That is between 1.5 and 2 qts per pound. I had about 2 inches of space left at the top of my tun.

Aw, shucks...
One thing to keep in mind is "potential extract". Different grains (even between same type, and same maltster) have different levels of extractable sugars, which can certainly account for lower OG.

And try getting that bit of information from your LHBS. Mine doesn't seem to care that it is important info for a brewer to have let alone SRM.russki wrote:Aw, shucks...
