Welcome aBorg!
If by some chance you do decide to try the SodaStream for the halibut, let me know how it works. I bought the wife one for her birthday with the intent of trying it. I am curious if it works. Would be nice to be able to quick carb a beer to check the taste when playing around with extracts and the like.
And remember, do NOT follow the Mr. Beer directions. You will want to ferment for 3 weeks if you are not taking hydrometer readings and then condition at room temperature for another four weeks to both carb and let the yeast clean up. Although I would not try the whole batch, if you wanted to try recarbing a bottle it could always be a learning experience I would not dump them out into a bucket and batch priming since that would just introduce too much oxygen.

Re: I've been assimilated...
I used 2 drops per 750mL PET bottle. I did twist the lids on as tightly as I could. I had originally fermented for 2.5 weeks and bottle conditioned for 2 weeks at room temp on the second floor of my house, which is about 70 degrees. The bottle sat in my fridge for 3 days before I cracked it open. I did try the sodastream, with some mixed results. On the plus, it did increase carbonation. On the minus, it was a little tricky as each time I hit the button, it kicked up a head in the bottle that threatened to block the safety release valve. Also, you do have to release the pressure to remove the bottle and apply the cap. I hope this gets better the longer it sits.

I am drinking ale today."

As others have noted, this is far too short a period to have any good results for carbing/conditioning. I don't touch a bottle of my homebrew until at least 4 weeks has passed in bottle at room temp in the dark. 6 to 8 weeks for stouts and porters.
