Welcome aBorg Nick! Both Brew Demon and Mr. Beer are great and affordable ways to start out. I personally have 4 Mr. Beer kegs in addition to my 5 gallon and all grain rigs. I still use the LBK (little brown keg) for a quick extract brew as well as to split 5 gallon batches to try different dry hops and yeasts. Either way you cant go wrong, and both Brew Demon and Mr. Beer extracts can be made in either fermenter.

I'll look for a big styrofoam one. I had thought of putting my plastic cooler on it's side, but it tapers and has handles.

Yep that's the problem you need the Husky type so it will sit flat and stay stable. This tapers a bit to on the outside so it is up against the wall but the conical sits flat inside.John Sand wrote:I'll look for a big styrofoam one. Just go to the local home improvement store and buy a 4X8 sheet of 1" bead board and make a custom box. When you glue the pieces together coat the edge being glued with the glue (I used wood glue), let it get sticky then put another coat of glue over that and put the pieces together. I thought the same thing when I saw that photo. I've been afraid to change to a taller fermenter because I don't have any tall coolers.
