Brew weekend!

Post by jivex5k »

Who's brewing this weekend, and what you got going?
I'm bringing my standard berliner base to a boil now, had 5 days of souring...this was the best pellicle I've seen yet!
And tomorrow I've got the stuff to make another batch, so on schedule for my weekly brewing so far.

I'm almost glad I'm not brewing this weekend with very high temps and humidity. But I'll drink to those who are brewing.
OK, I'll be honest, I'm vacuuming and mopping right now and stopped to take a break. :( Please pity me!

Planning on brewing Sunday or Monday (or both). Belgian Trippel or Saison (or both). We'll see what else happens this weekend... I'm at the hospital right now waiting to see my new grandson just born!

Just got back from the hospital; my new grandson is 7lb 9oz, 20" long & healthy, and my daughter is tired and healthy too! Too hot here to go on an afternoon bicycle ride, so I'm going to chill out and start brewing.

Congrats Rebel B!

@jivex5k, I'm not brewing, but did that sour mash get more oxygen exposure then the other ones perhaps? That would explain more pellicle, although they are weird things and rise and fall seemingly with the weather too.

Weird, if anything it got less. I didn't open it once and the saran wrap was fully puffed up from the co2. Also there was no bad aroma and the sourness was very clean.
It definitely was kept hotter than the last two though, the heat lamp is much closer to the pot now.

Brewed today, Sunday, a Munchener Helles.
Luckily was able to do the mash inside but the wifey kicks me out to the patio for the boil... 100 degrees today.. Ouch. Scrunched up in the little bit of shade I could find..

Brewed 2 beers on my weekend; a Trippel and a SMaSH Saison. It's up to 76 in my house right (no, no A/C here), so I figure the Belgian yeasts on these two will create some nice flavors.
