I lost weight while still consuming beer and not going to the gym. I just cut out other high calorie/carb crap like honey buns, donuts(the hardest cut), muffins and just tried to avoid excessively high calorie fast food. Made a few healthy switches and cut my intake and here I am 20 pounds down in about 6 weeks all the while still having beer. And some whiskey every now and then.

Indeed. If your not careful, moneys that would normally go towards ingredients will be going towards a new wardrobe.

I find that if I eat healthier, I can keep the lbs. off. 90% of my beers are 200 + two topped 250.... ut I find I am satisfied with only one, sometimes two at the end of the day...

Actually, as crazy as it might seem, I wouldn't mind too much at all looking like my avatar. I chose it for the seemingly unashamed joy in that expression, made even more significant by the scraggly, toothless appearance, in a world where people get false teeth, face lifts, hair implants, etc. I actually hope I can embody that attitude as I get even older than I already am. I actually met a man in real life who this avatar reminded me of very much, and who had made the similar impression on me years ago. It was in an Italian bakery in NJ. The old man and his very lovely daughter were very friendly, but he was a total joy. He also was missing most of his teeth, and was old and scrawny and mostly bald. But he just had the biggest shit eating smile on his face when he laughed, and he didn't seem to waste one fraction of a second worrying about how he looked. I'll never forget that guy. As for the beer belly, ain't that the truth. I worry more about how it affects my health than about how it looks, but even knowing that a little daily exercise would probably be enough to slowly dissolve it, I still don't do it. Probably just lazy. :2fisted:

The beers we brew ourselves can be as high in calories or as low in calories as we wish. I've made 7.5% ABV beers and 3% beers. It all depends on what you like.

As far as the calories and getting a beer belly, well, I've lost nearly 50 pounds since late November (doing Weight Watchers), and I still drink a couple of beers every evening. It's not automatic that drinking beer leads to weight gain. Drinking too much beer leads to weight gain, of course. But ingesting too much of anything will do that, especially if you're not burning those calories off. It's a simple equation:
calories in < calories expended = weight loss.

Wow 50 lbs, that's awesome! I don't need to lose that much, just maybe 10-15 but I must have a very slow metabolism. I don't drink beer every day and I exercise 4-5 days a week and really, (seriously) I don't eat that much.

My secretary tells me she's surprised I don't spend most of my day in the bathroom since I drink so much water. But, you're right, water does help and I'm told the colder the better.
But, isn't beer, mostly water? Just sayin'.

Definitely. Cut out soda almost completely and replaced it with flavored water. First week of my diet change, I lost 5 pounds.

Try being a pastry chef at a high end country club not only do have the sweets to worry about. You also have all those excellent meals calling you. My doc told me last week that I need to lose another 20 - 30
pounds. I already lost 60!! She also cut out the hooch!!! :-( :-( :-(

Same here at dinner time. Generally beers are about the same or a little lower calorie than soda and some beers are just 1/3 the carbs. And if you go to "light" beers, then it's even better.

some people mistake thirst for hunger and eat more... more lbs added. Drink your fill of water, it really helps...
