Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale

Post by FedoraDave »

This is a limited edition, highly hopped, high ABV IPA, commemorating the 2005 "St. Patrick's Day Massacre" and subsequent 20-day suspension.

IBUs = 66.6

ABV = 9.3

Usually, when I've had a beer with this high an alcohol content, I am very much aware of a "hot" alcohol taste. Not so here. This is malty, and almost sweet, considering the high IBU. Also, the bitterness isn't overwhelming. This is actually a balanced beer, and very pleasant. Dangerously so, given the ABV. Better make sure you're not going to drive anywhere if you're going to sample these. They go down smooth, like a session beer, but it'll hit you sooner or later.

Once again, I'm not disappointed by a Lagunitas product. There are some breweries, like Victory, Brooklyn, Ommegang, Saranac, that I find always deliver. Lagunitas is one of them. I don't know how limited this edition is, but if you can get your hands on a six pack of this amazing beer, and if you like highly-hopped IPAs, give this a try. It's a good stand-alone beer, but it would also be very good with a robust steak or some really savory barbecue.

Bought a 6 pack of those a few weeks ago
Enjoyed them one at a time over a few weeks
One day last week I found what I thought was a renegade Daytime IPA in the fridge
Didn't even look close at the label
lust popped it open
poured in a glass
and took a big swig
Should have looked at the label
Big difference between Daytime IPA and this high ABV beer

Heh! It can be a real shock to get a taste of something you weren't anticipating.

Reminds me of the Lincoln quote -- "If this is coffee, please bring me some tea, but if this is tea, please bring me some coffee."

Wish we could get that down here. All we get so far is the Lag IPA, Lil sumpin and their session so far.

Those are all good beers. I'd gladly drink a Li'l Sumpin any day.
