Gotta Love those Grandchildren

Post by JohnSant »

I know most of us that have grandchildren love them to death, but I have one I'm very proud of. This granddaughter came to live with her Nana and Papa when she was 8 years old, she's 21 now. We thought that she had a learning problem and had her tested and come to find out she was a Special Needs child. At the time we tried to help and give her all our support and love. She was given a physical at the age of 12 and the doctor had some concerns with her heart and set us up with a specialist. After a lot of tests and what-not we came to learn she had a very rare heart problem ( I can't say it and spell it), its the problem one hears about when a youth dies on a ball field for no reason. Her heart has a growth on the inside that limits the blood flow to her body and after time she can die of a heart attack. Anyway back to present; my birthday is in a week and she wanted to know what I wanted. I told as her (as most of us would our grandchildren) I would be happy knowing that she loves me. She almost always gets me a coffee cup or what not from the dollar store, not this year she has a part time job and now and she has her own funds so she looked at my Home Brewing wish list and ordered me an Advance Optics 0-40%brix and 0-25% alcohol dual scale refractometer. Real happy knowing that maybe my coffee cup collection won't be getting any bigger and one member of my family is getting me something I really wanted. Gotta Love Those Grandchildren...

Thanks all. Really proud of her and her life, spent 3 months in the hospital at one stretch with her (almost lost her) that was enough to make me go crazy. She says she is going to live with us forever and take care of us when we get old and can't do anything. God help us!

Very nice, and touching. What's great, aside from the gift itself, is that she is willing to go into pocket for the cost AND more importantly - to spend the time looking into something that you would really like.

Congrats. That's heart-warming.

Thanks everyone for the B-Day wishes. I really do love this young lady. With all the problems she has had in her short life she keeps a big smile on her face and a positive outlook on life. She is pacemaker dependent but keeps up with all her friends but dose wear out fast. We just hope she stays with us for many many years to come. Gotta Love Those Grandchildren.

Well, Happy Birthday, John. And what a thoughtful young woman your granddaughter is. You and the missus have every right to be proud of her. You raised her right.
