NB All Grain Recipes for $20.16.

Post by Beer-lord »

This isn't a bad deal at all. If I didn't have so much grain, hops and yeast here, I'd do it.
You do have to buy 3 though.

Not a bad price at all. I may just have to look into this.

Haven't used their kits in more than a year but they've always been fresh and good. I've always gotten the unmilled and crushed myself. I wonder if the discounted shipping still applies.

Looks like shipping is a flat rate $7.99. If I order the Ace of Spades Black IPA, Czech Pilsner and the Kiwi Express IPA...I'll save just about $20 if I were to get these ingredients from my LHBS. Plus, I can brew them when I want, don't need to worry about making the 30 minute drive to the store.

EDIT...done deal, I pulled the trigger. Looks like I know what the next three recipes I'm making are!!

If I didn't have such a big stock on hand I would be all over this. This is comparable to what I pay for a batch buying in bulk.

Yeah, I'm tempted too.....But I have about 75# of grain, 30oz hops, 15 packs of yeast. And a checking account that's still crying after paying my property taxes.

If you gave a brewing buddy close by, you can share the load.
Wonder how they can offer these at those prices.

The deal is only on the grain and hops. The yeast or any other items like priming sugar is not included, so you still have to pay full price for the yeast. I would imagine that they have a healthy mark up on their grain and hops, so they probably aren't out much money, if any at all. Plus, the offer is only available for 48 hours, so if you're interested you have until the end of day tomorrow to place the order.

Dead Ringer IPA and Caribou Slobber are real nice brews. I've done those in the past. Unfortunately, I brew six gallons batches. That normally gets me a clean 5 gallons into the keg.

I thought about the size also....I have BeerSmith set at 5.5 gallons to get appx 5 into the keg. I'll just drop all their ingredients into BeerSmith and see what it gives me.

That's me too but with all the hops I use, I'm thinking of jumping to 6.5 gallons in future recipes. And, I seem to have a ton of junk at the bottom. BIAB is not very clean compared to starndard brewing.

I didn't read everything so its no surprise that it's yeast and sugar free. That's fine for me as it's still a very good deal and one hard to pass up.

I brewed Plinian Legacy, their Pliny Clone recently. It's very good, super hoppy. After kegging, I cold crashed the fermenter and got four bottles from it. The trub had so much hops in it that it fell out in a clump. I don't normally cold crash, as I don't have the gear. Winter did it for me.
I'm sure they are making a little money on these sales, rotating ingredients, and building customer loyalty. I bought the Legacy on sale, with a discount or free shipping (don't remember which) it ended up being pretty cheap.

Yup, with hoppier recipes it would probably be better to brew up a 6.5-7 gallon batch.

One could always supplement with DME and adjust a 5 gallon kit to 6.0-6.5 gallons, right? You'd still have damn near the same beer.

Are the grains co-mingled?
IOW ... if the recipe has 11# of 2-row and 1# of C40 ... do you get it in one 12# bag?
