Rhizome offer

Post by bpgreen »

This is really an offer for next spring. I've given rhizomes this year to mashani, Pudge, FrozeonInTime, swenocha, Mr Band Guy.

D Rabbit was on my list, but passed because he's moving. He jumps to the top of my list for next year (exceptions for my brothers and nephews who brew and go to the top of the list).

Who wants in for next year?

Here are the rules.

I send at least one rhizome.
It may or may not grow.
You MUST NOT send me beer in exchange (I'm in Utah).

Potential varieties:
Centennial
Cascade
Hallertauer
Nugget
Perle

You are a good guy.
I already grow hops, no room for more.
Making beer and stew for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Never mind, there it is.

Thanks again, BP. It's in the ground and enjoying our weather right now!

That's a nice offer, Brian. I wish the best of luck to those receiving them and cultivating them.

Thanks for mine! It's in a pot under grow lights with the rest of the spring veggies I'm starting. It's too early to plant, hope to get in in the ground end of May, planting time 'round here.

Bumping this with a pic, which is hopefully some centennial springing up.

If it is not... then something else took root in the same spot LOL.

I think I have a wee bitty nugget popping up now too, but it's just barely there.

That's a hop bine.

I've got a perle that's smaller because I dug up the main plant instead of the rhizome. Oops.

It might take a couple of years to get many hop cones. I'd fertilize the heck out of it this year with high nitrogen fertilizer. Hit it regularly, but not so often that you risk burning it. Nitrogen promotes growth at the expense of flower production (with hops, flower production means cone production). But since you won't get many chines the first year, you *really* want to promote growth.
