How is it, Ron?
Re: First Pour Thread
Red X IPA, version 2. Brewed this one on 3/6/16, 79% Pale malt & 21 % Red X malt. This double IPA tastes perfect! With a strong malt backbone & ABV of 8.1%, then with a citrusy up front flavor from the double dry hopped Centennial hops, I couldn't ask for more!

That does look nice! Looking forward to using this malt in the next 3 weeks.

Basil Pale Ale... First time herb ale. I like it! Slight basil aroma & taste. Little bit of bitterness from the fresh basil leaves added at < 10 minutes left in the boil.

Blueberry Berliner Weisse... Could use another week or so for carbs sake, but quite tasty, IIDSSM. Very pleased with how this is coming along...

Sitting on the deck in 99% relative humidity. A fresh hefeweizen helps. Slight bannana, a wee bit tart. Very nice. It's still too fargen hot and humid though!

That beer looks great. I love how you tagged it's contents. You gave me a great idea for the next time I bottle!Ibasterd wrote:Sitting on the deck in 99% relative humidity. A fresh hefeweizen helps. Slight bannana, a wee bit tart. Very nice. It's still too fargen hot and humid though!

First pour of my 15-minute Simcoe Pale Ale.
Sofa King good. It's getting rave reviews, but who ever complains about free beer, right?

And....first pour of my IPL using Pislner LME. It's a bit darker than I wanted, but I'm not losing sleep over it.

How fresh was the LME? What was your recipe and process?Kealia wrote:And....first pour of my IPL using Pislner LME. It's a bit darker than I wanted, but I'm not losing sleep over it.
Now that I have the Mash & Boil, I'm transitioning to all grain, but my LHBS sells bulk Pilsen LME for a ridiculously low price if you buy in bulk and I've brewed a lot of beer with it. If it's fresh, you can brew a batch that will rival one made with all-grain.
Re: First Pour Thread
Was that MoreBeer Pilsner LME? If so, I've never had it come out that dark. I've got a beer here that I made using it that although maybe slightly darker then an AG pils still is lighter for sure then an all Pale malt beer. But I only boiled it for 20 minutes. I guess maybe you got an older batch of it somehow. Maybe they send all the fresh stuff to PA now LOL.
I'm kind of re-transitioning to AG now too. Although I will probably still do some extract things when I find really good sales on stuff ($14.92 Columbus day kit sales or such). But I have 10# of actual Pilsner malt now... I am going to make me some Kolsch(es). One normal, and maybe one noridicized with some Juniper in the mash. Now that I have the Mash & Boil, I'm transitioning to all grain
Re: First Pour Thread
Yes, it's the MoreBeer Pilsner LME and I picked it up in person. It's not as dark as the picture seems, but it is more orange than I expected.
It's a 60-minute boil with 40% of the LME in for the full boil and the remaining 60% added at 10 minutes.
I'm not overly concerned...just calling out that I was expecting it to be lighter in color. The beer itself is tasty which is all that REALLY matters to me.

Re: First Pour Thread
Wow, 4 months without a post. I'll fix that, as this is the first pour of Simply Simarillo + Azacca.
(Credit to Beer-lord and BlackDuck for the original recipe).
This is a session IPA with primarily Amarillo and Simcoe but with some Azacca added in the dry-hop.
It's a re-brew (except for the Azacca addition which adds something nice to the aroma). Not fully carbed, but already tasty.
