Troegs Perpetual IPA Clone
Forgot to update this one. I brewed this yesterday. Everything seemed to go exactly as it should until I took the OG. It came in a little low at 1.063, instead of 1.068. Not sure what happened. But it should still be a tasty IPA in the end, so all is good.

Re: Troegs Perpetual IPA Clone
Kegged this today. I'm looking forward to this one more than some of my recent beers for some reason. It just seems different from many of my other ones. Fingers crossed for a tasty beer.

Re: Troegs Perpetual IPA Clone
I have no doubt it will be good. I've never had the real deal nor do I recall having any Troegs.
Waiting to see what you think.

Re: Troegs Perpetual IPA Clone
I took a test taste of this one this past Saturday. It's only been on the gas for 5 days. The aroma was good, but the flavor was a little weird. Almost a little medicinal...uh-oh. But it's early, it might just need another week or so to condition. At least let's hope so!!!

Re: Troegs Perpetual IPA Clone
Have you brewed with Mt. Hood and Nugget before? While I never have gotten anything medicinal from them, both are known to be herbal and Mt. Hood comes across a bit spicy to me. When you mix a few different hops together, it could just take some time for them to blend and mix so thus could just blend out fine.

I don't think I've used Mt Hood before, but I have used Nugget. I hope your right about it blending out just fine.

I'm always right, just ask my wife!BlackDuck wrote:I don't think I've used Mt Hood before, but I have used Nugget. I hope your right about it blending out just fine.
Seriously, you have 6 different varieties of hops in this recipe. That's not a bad thing at all but sometimes they seem to fight each other. If you google Mt. Hood, I know you'll see herbal and spice mentioned and when I've used it as a late addition, I've gotten a slight flowery taste. That could be what you're getting mixed up with earthy Bravo and the other hops.
I swear, my kegged beer is at its prime 3 weeks after it's kegged and on gas. Everything has settled out and it's the most enjoyable then.

Well, I'm not sure if you're ALWAYS right, but I think you might be here also. I too think that my kegged beer begins it's prime around the 3 week mark too.

Re: Troegs Perpetual IPA Clone
This is coming along just fine. That medicinal taste I referred to earlier is pretty much gone. I need to grab another bottle of the Troegs and do a comparison. From what I remember, the aroma is close. I think the Troegs had more hop flavor though. Either way, it turned out pretty good. I like it.

Re: Troegs Perpetual IPA Clone
So, am I always right now?
Glad to hear it. I think it'll get better in the near future.
That said, one thing I also noticed about a mix-mash of hops is that if the beer hangs around too long, the hops get wonky. I describe as folding into each other. Prolly not the best description but they get weird. Not all the time but sometimes so when this gets really good, drink it all!
