Anyone ever use this?
Hey All, I bought several Munton's canned kits the other day. I'd like to use the Old Ale to make a Wee Heavy. I brewd one straight up before as a 2.5 gallon batch and it was too hoppy for me.So I've got an extra pound of DME to add to cover that.My question is did anyone ever use liquid smoke in a brew? I've got the Lawrey's kind that you use for meat marinades.I don't think there are any ingredients that would screw up the brew. I figure on adding it to the slimline and racking the brew onto it,instead of stirring. There are probably grains that I could steep to give me that smokey flavor, but I didn't want to spend the time doing all that.Anyone have any ideas on how much I should add to a 2.5 gallon batch? TIA RandyG

I have used liquid smoke in a batch once...it 2as a pumpkin ale. I have no idea on how much to add, that will be on a personal basis and depends on what you want in the beer. I would use it very lightly. Maybe add it at bottling where youncan add a drop, stir, taste and repeat until you get the flavor you want.

Thanx Leigh. Seems top me that maybe I'll scuttle the liquid smoke idea. I've given some thought to adding several of those "Airline sized" bottles of Jack Daniels to the slimline at bottling. I brewed a Porter sometime back and added 4 of those little bottles of spiced rum,and it turned out delicious,so I'm thinking that the Jack will impart a faint smokey, charcolish note.In any case thats my plan.Hope it turns out good.Only time will tell. Cheers
