I've been eyeing the Jaded Hydra for a while, but couldn't quite pull the trigger. In discussing it with my brother in law, he convinced me to try to DIY it. It took some work, but it's done!
All my parts and stuff.
The connections.
Take 1. It leaked a lot.
The coils. I added wire to keep the separated. 3 coils of 20' because it's cheap at Menards. I wrapped them around 3 sizes of smaller pots to make them.
The secret sauce. My BIL is in tool and dye, so he customized two of this piece. Even engraved Bandmaster's Brewing on it. Also, I can't solder.
The final product. Fits in my 16.5 G pot and doesn't leak.
There it is! All for about $75 total because I had to buy soldering stuff. Hopefully get the inaugural brew in next weekend!

Re: DIY Jaded Hydra
Even if it only works half as well as the real one, you'll love it. If I had the patience and tools and know how, I'd of done the same but instead purchased one and only using it twice I realized it was worth every penny.
Job well done!

Nice build. I'm not that handy so I bought mine a long time ago and fell in love with it the moment I used it.
Congrats.
