Water Hose

I am considering buying a drinking water hose for brewing, and possibly using it as a garden hose also.
Right now I fill the kettle from the hose tap. If brewing a double batch, I fill it from another kettle in stages to keep the carry weight down. I once filled a kettle from an ordinary garden hose, with no ill effect. So now I'm thinking that I could just hook up a drinking water hose to the tap and use it as a general purpose hose. The concerns are only bad taste, but I think the possibility is low. On the boat I fill the tanks with a fabric hose (stores flat) that I use for all purposes. It is drained, but not dried after use and stored below deck. There is chlorine in our water, nothing should grown in a hose that has a nozzle on it. Generally in filling water tanks it is good practice to run the hose briefly first to flush the lines on the dock. My boat water has no bad flavors nor anything living in it.

I'd do it. Especially if you're basically repeating what you do on the boat and have seen no ill effects from that process in your drinking water.

That's what I use, what I call an RV Hose. I have a 50ft one on the front spigot and 25ft in the back yard.

Yup, I agree.............. Of course a lot of us have drank from a garden hose, but I would really think about off flavors.....RV hose is the way to go ............

Off flavors from a garden hose is less important than the LEAD that leaches from the hose, especially if it sits with water in it, and is not flushed. You should never use a garden hose for food items for that reason alone. Yes, none of us have lead poisoning from drinking from a garden hose after flushing it to get the water cold (although some may have minor brain damage, but that's a different topic). I would want to ensure that the hose is drained after each usage, and the ends are connected together to keep things out. I might take it a step further and research on an RV site the proper ways to keep the hose sanitary, but I would think as a boat owner with fresh water storage that you already know how to do that. The issue might be that the steps they take including adding chlorine bleach at times, and you don't want chlorine in the hose ever as it would absorb it and impact your beer.

That would turn him into me. If I had a fancy boat. And if he was a triathlete. And probably other stuff. But still, me, because that would be my solution, if I had that problem, which I don't because I already follow that solution.

Can you tell I've been drinking beer? I bet he was though too.

Half batch or whole, I can only brew inside when Jane is not home. Even then, it's scary.

So, I bought the RV hose, and tried it today. I let the water run for a few minutes, but it still tasted really plastic-y and hose like.
I'll give it another try next time.
