Basement Brewery Build

Post by D_Rabbit »

So it is finally upon me! I started out about 3 months ago working with a contractor to build out an unfinished room in my basement for brewery. We had figured everything out and my build was supposed to begin the week after Thanksgiving when I got a call from the contractor who told me he was having license issues and would have to postpone the build. Luckily I got my deposit back but lost 7 weeks of build time. I'm glad it didn't work out because I found a new contractor that I think work really well together. I'll be updating this thread with the progress of my build which starts Tuesday!

Very exciting brewery buildout, congratulations! Beautiful brewing kettles too. I'd be happy to offer advice on hoods, fans and CFMs to keep the room air nice an comfy while brewing.

Thanks Screwy for the offer. I was able to find a hood similar to the FastKitchen hood promoted on The Electric Brewery for a much better shipping cost. Also going with an inline 8" exhaust fan which will give me the ability of getting upwards of 750 CFM, which will be more than enough power. Going to hook it up to a dial so I can control the speed. My only concern right now with that is if I will need an air intake vent as well to allow clean are to come in. I may just not do that and open the basement door a crack if necessary. Cross that bridge when I get to it with my contractor.

In the mean time I was walking through Lowes today and found tiles on clearance. Was able to get enough for the floor. Things work out at the right time for the right reasons!

Anything that involves "a big box of wires and shit" as we say in these parts is pretty cool.

Was this space in your home originally plumbed for a bathroom?

Yes it was. When we built the house we left that area open but asked them to rough plumb it for the bathroom that would normally go there knowing full well it would eventually become my indoor brewery. It will help also having a drain directly in the floor for those days when water is going everywhere. I can use it as a dump for my plate chiller out and not have to run a hose to the sink.
