Re: Basement Brewery Build
Best thing about working from home.... can call it quits early to work on better things!!!
Ran water in each bay for 5 minutes each, no leaks from drain or supply lines! Was getting minor leaking from P trap to wall but a little plumbers cement took care of that.
Calling for final inspection tomorrow. Hopefully will happen on Wednesday or Thursday and I can work on better things like tiling and vent hood!

Damn! Inspection failed this morning! Wasn't because of the plumbing either. Contractor didn't set up the outlets properly so they wouldn't trip when tested for GFI. A little annoyed since I now have to wait until next week for him to come out and fix it and than another few days for the new inspection. Setting me back even further. Not sure why this isn't something my contractor checked when he was done with it.

Re: Basement Brewery Build
Wow. That's one of those things that should have been done right the first time. An electrical contractor should realize that it's the same as a kitchen or bathroom; all that water requires proper GFI. Why weren't they tested when they were installed?

Great Question Dave!! You would think he would have checked it at each outlet to make sure it worked properly. When I trip it from the breaker it works which i am assuming is the only place he checked it. I only need 2-3 outlets to be GFI but he set up the whole room as GFI just in case since there was going to be a floor drain and who knows where the water will go. I'm just glad I didn't do any tiling yet because if he has to rip things out to fix I would have been pissed.

Re: Basement Brewery Build
That's a really big fail for a contractor - not an issue of him not inspecting each outlet, he wired them wrong. Good thing that the inspector caught it. If you have to pay for a re-inspection, have the contractor pick it up.

Re: Basement Brewery Build
Do you guys know anything about electricity? You don't need to wire a GFI outlet any differently than a standard outlet. If the outlet doesn't trip, the outlet itself if faulty.
Re: Basement Brewery Build
Yes I know some. You are absolutely correct on the being the same wiring. With the ground prong down the wider common side will be on the left which will be the silver colored connections and will be a green connection on that side at the bottom for the open ground, hot is on the right and gold colored connections. Most everything will work if they are reversed but it's not right and can be a shock hazard. A GFI will Not work wired like that reversed. I'm not sure if rabbit has individual GFI plugs or one in the main box that feeds the whole circuit which would be harder to get wrong. Either way somebody didn't get it right.Scoper50 wrote:Do you guys know anything about electricity? You don't need to wire a GFI outlet any differently than a standard outlet. Re: Basement Brewery Build
I have experienced the effects of a cross wired "grounded" outlet while working on something while on the floor of my old house with my foot up against the radiator (steam heat). It was not fun.
Re: Basement Brewery Build
My other house where I grew up and now own is like that, it is old and before some of the codes we have now and had a lot of little shocks playing with my old erector set when young and close to the heater ducts. I want to hear what Dan say's caused the fail. I think I might know, but like to learn more.mashani wrote:I have experienced the effects of a cross wired "grounded" outlet while working on something while on the floor of my old house with my foot up against the radiator (steam heat). Re: Basement Brewery Build
If multiple outlets are on one circuit, and each is a GFI, they get wired differently, there are clips that get broken, or not.

Re: Basement Brewery Build
Not sure what he did wrong with the wiring but he switched two outlets for GFI outlets and final inspection today passed.
Wife is out of town this week so I’ve already got a lot more done. [emoji16]
Unpacked the vent hood and moved the giant wood thing out of my garage so we can park in there again. Bought tile for the walls. Bought paint for the ceiling and other walls.
Unfortunately the rest of my week nights are packed with Taxes, brew club, and bowling. Not sure what else I’ll get done this week. Maybe this weekend I’ll get my wife to help me paint. [emoji23]

Coat one on the ceiling/walls! Sealant/primer is on! Next is 2 costs on the ceiling of white than the walls. Hoping to get that taken care of before the weekend so we can tile the wall on Saturday.
