I finally figured out what i like

Take a minute to introduce yourself to the Borg and tell us what's brewing. You can ask questions here too!

Well 24 lbks later and i finally figured I am a fan of these liberty hops....dont know if its because they remind me of another naughty substance that I used to indulge in
Or what but really enjoying the flavor and aroma these hops let off

Nice. I am that way with Fuggles in my red ales. But then I really like Goldings in my browns. I think you are going to eventually find different hops taste better to you in combination with different grains.

I have liked Goldings enough that I had to tell myself to use more variety. Fuggles is part of that variety, and it sounds like I will need to try Liberty.

Big fan of Fuggles as well, I have a long way to go before I can name a favorite being as new as I am.

Never tried Liberty, but if they are reminiscent of Fuggles, then I'd try them in the Nong Irish Red recipe.

Side note, Togorok: If you haven't been by, in Sanford there's the Sanford Homebrew Shop that I pick up all my ingredients from that has great prices and the guys that run it are extremely knowledgeable. They carry a huge variety of hops, including Fuggles and I'm pretty sure I've seen Liberty there. Just a heads up in case you've only purchased ingredients online through the Mr Beer site, or other online sites. Not having to pay shipping is always a big money saver.

I haven't tried the Liberty variety either, but one reason they may be reminiscent of something else is that they are very closely related in the plant kingdom(?).

I used goldings in my latest Red Ale. I also used 2oz of chocolate malt instead of 2oz of black patent to color it. I am really anxious to try it. But it is in a Keg waiting in line behind one of the kegs I am working on now, and a keg of altbier, so it will be a while.

I like chocolate malt in my reds too. With Goldings or Fuggles.

If you like Liberty, then there are two other hops I'd suggest you try sometime.

1) Mt. Hood
2) Santium

You might like either of those. I have made awesome beer with both.

If you want a different take on Fuggles, try Styrian Goldings some time. They are Fuggles - but grown in different soil conditions, so they have a different character.
