Crap, it's 12. I'm starting to think I'd rather be brewing today.

It was even 27 when I woke up this morning. While we might get into the teens once every season or so that's rare. But even in the 40's it's cold when you're cleaning your hardware outdoors.
Only going to take me minutes to chill my beer tomorrow so that's a plus.

I always brew indoors, so it doesn't matter. I kegged a fiver of Trilby Brown Ale this morning, and I'm brewing a fiver of Rye Guy Rye IPA tomorrow morning. The basement, where I ferment, is in the low 60s, so it'll be perfect for mellowing out those ales.

It was 5*F at the Barn this morning. However by the time I was done with chores, breakfast, etc. and ready to brew it was a tropical feeling 15*F. I brewed a TrueBrew Nut Brown Ale inside and was going to use my "new to me" homemade wort chiller outside but the outside faucet was frozen. However, since I normally chilled in an ice bath, I went back down to the barn, set the brewpot on the ice in the bathtub we use to water the animals with. It actually worked fine, cooled quickly, and melted a hole in the ice, not all the way through of course as the ice is pretty thick. :freeze:

I don't know how some of you survive this for days at a time. I don't mind the cold but 65 is my ideal temperature and it's also what the temperature is in heaven!

Got up to 39 and when the winds stops and you're in the sun, it ain't too bad. Should be about 10 degrees higher when I brew tomorrow but I've got everything done but the RO water. Yeast starter, grain crushed, water salts and hops all measured and out the way and it's not like you have to stay outdoors the full 4 hours in the cold. It's just that damn cleaning up that is nasty.

Well, it's 20 outside, pitch dark, and snowing hard. I brew in the yard with no shelter. So no, not a brewing day.

The Borg has gone soft. :lies:
I don't blame any of you for staying indoors. Heck, there's playoffs going on too!
Looking forward to sneezing in the spring!

High of 19 here today. Too cold for me. I've got a IIPA still cleaning up in the fermentation fridge, and two kegs on deck, so I'm good.

It was really easy cooling the wort down to pitching temperatures, since the tap water was only 55F yesterday.

I started the fire on the mash was only 32 (hey, it's the south) and it got to 45 for a high today. It wasn't bad at all. RedBEERd the assistant brewer was here to help with the clean up. Wow, the chilling with only ground water and the Hydra immersion chiller only took about 12-15 minutes.
It was a good day for my favorite recipe, black IPA but I tweaked it alot.
C'mon spring!
