Whoo-hoo! Got the Cantillon Zwanze Day tickets! Only took 19 minutes of 502 errors and spinning status wheels... Anyone else attending? I see locations local to at least a few of you...

Been getting tweets about it from Ave. Pub in NOLA but it's not something that I'm stoked about. Dare I say I'm not a Lambic guy though I would love to try something that is special. I'm sure it'll be packed too!

Took 1.5 hours for the 185 tickets to be sold for the Nashville area event, but most of that time was system crash/delay. They would have been sold out in 10 minutes had the servers been able to keep up.

The lineup is:

A single full pour of this year's Cantillon Zwanze beer (along with a 2019 Zwanze glass):
"The beer for this year's Zwanze was brewed in March 2016 and kegged January 26, 2018.
Contrary to past Zwanze beers, this beer is not the result of a special blend or the addition of a special fruit, but of a wholly unique brew.
On March 1, 2016, we brewed a smoked Lambic using a blend of classic pilsner malt and smoked malt.
Rather than taking the beer to an extreme, we looked instead to find a balance between the acidic character of Lambic and the woodiness of the smoked malt.
The result is a fine Gueuze with the classic notes of a Cantillon, complemented by an elegant smokiness in the nose and on the palate.”

Along with pours from Cantillon kegs:
Gueuze
Nath
Magic Lambic
Rose de Gambrinus
St Lamvinus Grand Cru

And...
rare lambic from Drie Fonteinen and Tilquin along with special beers from our own Yazoo Embrace The Funk series, Hill Farmstead, De la Senne, Jester King, Crooked Stave, Jolly Pumpkin and more

Don't forget to put the basket in the Mash & Boil and then mash Commando.

This process is not recommended.

When you do that, you have to dump your mash into buckets (in my case fermenters) violating the don't use the handles when full rule...

Then take apart the ball valve to clean out all the grain...

Then scrape the burnt @%@% off the bottom because the mash burned onto it a bit. (somehow no ERR4)…

Then pour the mash back through the basket into the mash & boil to filter out the grain...

Which adds an hour or so to your brew day, plus a hella lot of @%W^^!@$$$@%Ting...

EDIT: My "mash" as such... before filtering it out again...

Wert is the question

Can I ask you Mash or not enough time yet, how did you forget to put the basket in? LOL. We all have done things like that but don't usually say and you did, your turn in the barrel Ha Ha. Hope it worked out for you in the end but sounds like a lot of work.

I was out doing some hard cycling earlier in the day, went further then I had planned, and didn't bring any carbs with me because I wasn't expecting to need them, so I was pretty much bonking when I got home. I don't know if you know what that is like, but basically if you burn through all your carb stores, your brain doesn't work right because it runs on carbs. Your body can turn fat into carbs to feed your brain but it is a relatively slow process, and doesn't happen so well when it's also trying to feed your muscles. So everything just gets weird, you can't think right.

So I guess even after I ate food and started brewing my brain wasn't quite working right. AKA Brain Fart. I just put the water in, set the temp, put the lid on, walked away... normally at that point I'd have grabbed the basket and put it in, but it just didn't happen. So later I just walked over to it with my bags of grain and dumped them in, gave it a stir, and walked away again LOL. It was only after my mash was done and I reached for the basket handle that wasn't there that I realized what I had done. And then I said the F word. LOL.

The batch of beer is in my fermenters now happily fermenting, and it smells and looks good, so I believe I will still end up with 6 gallons of FrankenSaison.

Not directly beer related but I sure drink some beers after I’m done working on it for the day.

Well folks the show is over on this one and was good while it lasted. Walter Wheat met it's demise like Walter White did at the end of Breaking Bad. That was a good wheat beer and will do it again next summer... :(
