SWMBO went in over 12 yrs. ago for neck surgery had to have one fused still has pain and unable to turn head to the sides to look over shoulder. I had back surgery about 10 yrs. ago 1inch incision and only minor pain at times because I don't stay as active now as I did after surgery.

@Stinkfist we never go into surgery without feeling anxious its really a natural reaction. If there was a better alternative to having surgery there would be no need for surgeons. Focus on the positive outcome and a speedy recovery, all of your Borg buddies are. Here's hoping that all goes well for you, we hope to hear you're back brewing beer very soon.

Do you know which disc it was? Was it more than one? Surprising she can't turn her head if it was only one disc...
Currently turning my head is not an issue since it C6-C7. Radiating pain and numbness is my issue, also I a hopeful since I am getting the disc replacement I shouldn't lose too much motion in my neck.
Sorry hers was so bad, I hope I do not have those issues, hopefully they have gotten better over the last 12 years.

Best of luck to you Big Guy and hope to see posting here as your recovery proceeds.
I think the anxiety is most likely both very common and a natural response.
You can probably find support outside of the actual surgeon's circle within the same medical facility these days as treating the whole patient is the new norm.

On the upside, another letter carrier at work had his back operated on almost 20 yrs ago. He was in significant pain before, but has carried mail like a horse ever since. He is now 58 yrs old.
