pilsner yeast?

Post by Ibasterd »

Hey Borg. On deck is a BD "one Evil Pilsner." Going to use some CaraPils on a steep and a Saaz hop addition. I am starting to understand the importance of using the right yeast. I was wondering if anyone can suggests a dry yeast to use on this instead of the BrewDemon standard yeast? I can't ferment at a low enough temp to use a true lager yeast. i can keep it in the mid to upper 60s. Is using a different yeast worth it, or should I stick to the BD standard?

I made that straight up with a little extra DME and it turned out good. No problem with using different yeast, just wanted you to know the standard yeast that comes with it is ok too.

With that temp range, if you're going to use something other than the BD yeast, then you'll probably want to use US-05 as it is pretty neutral as far as flavor profiles go for ale yeasts. If you were able to keep it in the high 50-low 60 range, I'd have suggested Danstar Nottingham dry yeast as it can produce pseudo-lager crispness at that low temp range.
