Ordering from Adventures in Homebrewing?

Post by dbrowning »

Anyone ever ordered ingredients ( YEAST specifically) from Adventures in Homebrewing?
I just did and I think it was a HUGE mistake.
My first concern was the date on a Bavarian Wheat blend (early Nov)
So I made a starter , just like I have every time before, and pitched yeast into starter
22 HOURS AGO
and NOTHING .... apparently DEAD yeast
What concerns me most is that it was one of 4 different yeasts ordered and delivered together.

Now what to do with 2 litres of wort containing a smackpack of DEAD yeast

Contact them about it. They *might* replace it, I have never ordered or dealt with them. As far as the dead starter/yeast, throw them in the wort 10 minutes before the end of the boil, it will act as a yeast nutrient. I hope they replace the yeast for you, keep us posted.

They are my LHBS. I'm sure Jason and his staff will make things right. Did you call them before posting? They are only open 12-4 EST on Sundays, but open at 10AM tomorrow.
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

They are also my LHBS and never had an issue. Im sure if you give them a shout they will replace the yeast for you. Was there last Sunday picking up a new 10 gallon mash tun and trying to peddle some hops. But, 3-4 months should generally be fine from what Ive heard. May just be a fluke if nada happened.
