My beer week in pictures
Well, actually a week and a half or so. To start off, I spent some time at the farm picking cascade hops that went into the brew kettle the next day at the brewery. In all, we harvested 50 cascade hop bines for a pickup truck full of fresh hops. Will be drinking this ale while harvesting the 150 bines of mystery hops for the Bell's Bend Preservation Ale during the third week of August.

Fast forward a week, and we have a Funk Fest to attend! This was an exclusive 50 seat tasting, with unlimited pours of five Yazoo Embrace the Funk beers (a Berliner Weisse, three variations on sour beers created from three distinct Brett strains harvested from one Cantillon bottle, and one Brett Saison that was aged in a chardonnay barrel on a bed of raisins), as well as pretty much as much Cantillon Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio as we wanted. Pretty awesome...
Barrel aging... complete!
and into the keg...
that's a lot of tasting snifters...
funky cheese for funky beer...
jumped right into the Lange Sommer Berliner Weisse to start...
... and then into a lesson on how Brett yeast functions
now time to taste and compare the Breaking Brett C1, C2, and C3 varitions... I preferred C3, but all three, as well as the Brett Saison and the Berlinner, were exceptional.
Cantillon time!
our humble host Vidal... well, he's really Linus, but any of us with Yazoo work shirts have random names. I'm Jeff. I really wanted a cool name like Vidal, but all the best names were taken by the time I got mine...
Up next...
- I have some Conan yeast harvested from Cool Springs Brewery that I'm itching to brew with. That's probably going down on Sunday.
- More hop picking in late August
- The Volksfest is coming up in September
- Two beer fests in December (the 12South Winter Warmer and the Science of Beer). I'll likely work both. There are a half dozen other fests through the next 4-5 months, but I'm going to pick these two.
- I really need to brew these last seven Mr. B brews, so I may work some of that in throughout the last quarter.
It's gonna be a busy beer quarter.

Picking hops.... what an aroma I'd imagine. Someone needs to make a cologne from hops...

There are some local wineries that let you help, unfortunately, no breweries willing.....
Re: My beer week in pictures
Figured I'd post the follow-up pics:
The annual release of Bell's Bend Preservation Ale will be at the Yazoo 10th birthday party on Oct. 5.
