Finished building my stir plate today.
It works very smoothly and the pot adjusts the fan speed gradually. I bought a 1 inch stir bar. It gets thrown if I'm not careful about how I get it spinning. There is a speed where it locks in and is very solidly in the magnetic field.
My daughter and I had fun watching the vortex and putting multi-colored fluids into it. It's like a science fair over here!
I used it to make some cold brewed coffee.
Its a fun project.

Nice work. You should be fine with using a 2 liter flask with that stir plate.

Nice job! Can you post the schematic and component values?

I used the values from the first link.
The second link has a very helpful picture of the components and how they are connected. By using the picture you don't have to read the schematic. Just follow the picture.
The first link uses only one capacitor. From the reading that I have done one or two capacitors can be used. Some designs eliminate the capacitors totally. Their use depends on how far the power source is from the 317 voltage regulator. I used both capacitors because it can't hurt to use them.
