Using a Starter

Post by D_Rabbit »

So I know this has been reiterrated a million times on here but I wanted to state it again. If you have the ability to do a starter, which everyone can, do it! You don't need a stir plate to do it, although it does help.

Here is my beer fermenting away.

The first pictures is about 5-6 hours after pitching the yeast. There are a few bubbles on top, which is just the beginning of fermentation for this one. 10 hours later I needed to remove the air lock and put a blow off on because it was going nuts! A healthy yeast pitch amount is so vital to getting your fermentation going fast and clean so it doesn't stress and leave off flavors behind.

Agreed and its just so nerdy to perv a starter. My wife makes fun of me because I just stare at it and talk to it like it's alive. Well, it is!
Plus, from 1 vial of yeast, I usually can get about 4-5 beers out of it. I could go further but it's just what works for me.
