Bottling ONE Bottle Off The Keg

Have a question on how to keg your beer or just want some tips on bottling! Don't stick a cork in it until you ask the Borg!

Bottling ONE Bottle Off The Keg

Post by BlackDuck »

I want to bottle one bottle off my keg to give away.

I was thinking of using a bottling wand in my picnic tap to do this. What's the best way to do this?

Here's my thoughts: Bleed the pressure off the keg, then set the pressure in keg to just a couple of PSI, basically just enough to push it through the line. Bottle it right away, then reset the keg pressure to my serving pressure. It just seems like it should be this easy....am I missing something. Any thoughts and/or recommedations would be much appreciated.

Just a quick note. I use a small bit of hose to connect from picnic tap to bottling wand. Broke a tap once trying to jam it in there. YMMV

So you've read through this I see. Easy peazy, lemon squeazy.
Like BPG said, all the above and cap on the foam. To do that, just hold the cap with one finger, tip the bottle over and return up right. Some Co2 will come out of suspension and foam will push O2 out of the head space. Cap and done.
Great suggestion by MBG. I have many cracked picnic taps, before figuring out the hose thing.

I'll add to put your bottle in an empty 4 or 6 pack carrier, adds stability. A extra bottle in the same carrier adds a place to put the wand as you cap the others.

Let us know how it goes. It's a learning curve at first, but get really easy the more you do it.

I use one of these when I need to do just a bottle and when I plan to drink it in the next week or less.

Thanks all for the tips. I still haven't decided if I'm going to do just one bottle or not. I may just go ahead and use the Blichmann gun and do a 6 pack or more. The others may just need to make a trip in February.

I picked one of those awhile back to fill growlers. It really works great. Get the growler (or bottle) the same temp as the beer, bleed all pressure from the keg, give the keg a quick shot of CO2 (just enough to move the beer). Beware the remaining beer left in the hose. It can be messy if you forget.

I've never done the CO2 hit before but when I do a growler or a bottle or two, it's consumed pretty quickly. But, that's a great idea.
