Recipe Collaboration Exchange!

Post by FedoraDave »

It's time for the Autumn Recipe Collaboration Exchange!! :jumpy:

For those unfamiliar with it, here's how it works:

You sign up in this thread and post your Brewing Level (more on this below). Then, I pair you up with someone else who has signed up. The two of you communicate by Personal Messages or emails, or whatever works best for you, and come up with a beer style and recipe together. Then you each brew it, and it's fun. You don't have to actually exchange any beer unless you want to. You don't have to brew your individual batches at the same time, either. There's no deadline for having your beer done. You just have to work together to create a recipe. Perhaps you'll try a style you've always wanted to make ("I've heard good things about Cream Ales, and thought it would be interesting to make one...."), or perhaps you'll use a technique you've heard about but haven't tried ("This might be a good chance to try First Wort Hopping..."), or an ingredient that intrigues you ("I've heard people say favorable things about Biscuit Malt; let's try some of that!").

That's the idea behind the RCE. It'll stretch your brewing muscles, it'll get you more familiar with another Borg member, and best of all, you get BEER! :give:

The Levels are as follows:

Level 1 - Only made recipes from hopped kits, such as Mr. Beer or Brew Demon. No other experience with brewing techniques.

Level 2 - Have experience with steeping grains, hop boils, recipes with DME/LME

Level 3 - Have done Partial Mash

Level 4 - Have done All Grain

I will pair Level 1 brewers with Level 2 brewers, and I will pair Level 3 brewers with Level 4 brewers. In case of an overabundance of a certain Level, I'll think of something. It usually works out okay.

Please don't sign up for this unless you're committed to following through. In the past, we've had people sign on, then get abducted by aliens, never to be heard from again. DON'T BE THAT GUY! It's not fair to the person you get paired with.

Cut-off date for sign-up is September 15, at which time I'll start a new Brewhouse thread to announce the pairs. Then, it's up to you.

I'm a level 2 and I've just now completed the brew that Sluggo and I worked up for the Spring session. He flaked and that's OK cuz I couldn't brew it anyway until yesterday. Moving and selling a house put my brewing on hold for a while but I'm ramping back up now.

I have a lot of hops and steeping grains on hand as well as at least 15 (maybe 20) HME's to use as a base. I'm not ready to do any partial mashes or BAIB's yet so pairing me with a Level 1 that I can coach along would be best.

I'm in: Level 4. I'd be glad to pair up with whatever level works best.

I have enjoyed both of the 2 RCEs that I have done so far, advanced my skills in each, and ended up with great recipes that I will be brewing again.

Although I can't commit to doing this right now this is a great opportunity new and seasoned brewers alike to learn more about brewing and get you out of your comfort zone to become a better brewer. I highly recommend doing this if you want to learn more and have fun doing it!

T8r says Level 3.3 maybe 3.4...no real experience at all-grain except for my all-grain Honey Nuts & Oats with almonds cereal. I have experience with one BABE (my wife) er i meant BIAB and that is where my comfort level sits. Let-er-rip, Mr Hat and thanks again for putting this together!!!

:thanks: :urock:

DAVE............................ I am in!! Level 4 all grain. If this helps my favorite styles, Belgium, IPA, Pilsner & Saisons. I too am willing to pair with any level. If you like I would not mind helping someone out using Beersmith to the best of my ability I have not used Qbrew in years though.

I think Brewbirds could get a level one or two who is ready for the challenge into stovetop partial mashes.

My first RCE was a HUGE benefit to our brewing advancement and I highly encourage any new brewers to jump in here and ask questions about it or sign up. Dave has created a great thing here.

We are SMEIBBs and have done one AG using two 8quart pots for an LBK size batch.

I'm going to shoot Christ872 an e-mail and see if he'll come over for this.

:thanks: :fedora: :urock:
