I'm a little embarrassed. I have roughly 10 batches under my belt and I finally made my first big mistake last night. I was brewing an extract kit from northern brewer. (cream ale) I finished the 1 hour boil and placed my pot into an ice bath. Then I looked down on the counter and saw my package of hops still sitting there unopened.
Unsure of what to do I immediately put the pot back on the stove and added some water. I brought it back up to a boil, added the hops and boiled it all for another hour. Everything looks and smells fine. It's only been in the fermenter for 8 hours so I'm not sure what to expect. Did I do the right thing?

I'd say you did the right thing. It may turn out a little darker due to the extended boil, but if you hadn't boiled the hops, it would have been way too sweet.
Re: Forgot the HOPS!!!
It will be fine.
Another option would have been to make a small very hoppy wort, or a strong hop tea and add it to the fermenter.

I agree with bp and John. It will be darker and fine.
What hops were they? With a Cream Ale you probably could have just boiled for 20 minutes and been fine.
