Not sure where to ask this.

Yes BrewDemon and Mr. Beer kits are pretty darn easy but sometime you need a little help from the Borg to get you on the right track. Post your questions here!

Not sure where to ask this.

Post by Rotisserie »

I was curious if anyone knows if it's possible to brew Mr Beer ingredient refill in the Brewdemon fermenter? I know it's theoretically possible but not sure how the measurement markings would match up... I only ask because Mr Beer seems to have more recipes/malts available at this point in time. Just wondering...

Its definitely possible. A fermenter is a fermenter. As long as you have a container to fill with wort and some kind of airlock to vent co2 from fermentation. You can also brew a brew demon extract in a Mr beer LBK.

The Mr. Beer LBK is designed to produce approximately 2.3 gallons of beer. Many of us (such as me) routinely fill it to the bottom or the top of the "Q" in "Quart" to produce 2.5 gallons.

I don't know the dimensions of the Demon conical, but their website says their extracts produce 2 gallons of beer. The difference between 2 gallons and 2.3 gallons (or whatever it is) shouldn't be enough to make a big difference.

The bottom line is, if there's enough headspace in whatever vessel you're using, you're good to go. I wouldn't sweat it.

Thanks for your quick responses. I am certainly interested in any malts and refills Brewdemon offers but their selection isn't quite that of Mr Beer yet. Hopefully there are many more to come!

As stated on the Brewdemon site:

Brewing Note

This is a 3-gallon fermenter designed to make 2-gallon and 2.5-gallon batches of beer.

Mr. Beer makes 2.13 gallons (272.64 ounces). What you should do is to see if the Brewdemon has marks for 1, 2, 3 gallons. If it doesn't, then find a container that holds a gallon (or 1/2 gallon) and make your own marks.

Add a gallon of cold water, add your wort, and then top to 2.13 or near there. As Dave noted, you can fill it more, some do. The more water you add, the more you dilute the flavor and lower the ABV. You can use QBrew available from www.screwybrewer.com to figure out the impact of using more water.
