Question about MB Canned Fruit
I was hoping someone could share with me the size (or quantity of product) of cans of fruit which normally accompany the Mr. Beer kits. For example, I am attempting to recreate the vintage MB recipe "George Washington’s Cherry Tree Stout" which calls for one can of tart red cherries. I was guessing that the standard 14.5 ounce can would suffice, but was hoping someone could confirm this. Thank you in advance!
Re: Question about MB Canned Fruit
I haven't done a MB recipe that used fruit but I think I saw that they send a can of the Oregon brand if you ordered it from them and I believe those are 15 ounces.
If you are trying to "recreate" an older recipe does that mean you don't have the MB HME to use?
Perhaps you could give us a little more info on your plans and current ingredients and if you had made the older one before what are your expectations for the recreation.

Luckily, all of the necessaries for this recipe are still available. It is quite simply:Brewbirds wrote:If you are trying to "recreate" an older recipe does that mean you don't have the MB HME to use?
1 can St. Patrick’s Irish Stout
1 can Mellow Amber Unhopped Malt Extract
1 can Red Tart Cherries, pureed with juice
I love trying new (to me) recipes, so I have spent considerable time studying the Mr. Beer recipes of old (via the Internet Archive Wayback Machine). With the BrewDemon HMEs, a little help from the BeerBorg, and my ever-expanding knowledge of basic brewing, I am hopeful that I can successfully recreate most of the vintage recipes.
I have been brewing off and on for about ten years, but am relatively new to the world of Mr. Beer and HMEs in general. I love the simplicity and versatility. My expectations are simply to try new brews, sample new tastes, and learn as much as I can along the way.Brewbirds wrote:Perhaps you could give us a little more info on your plans and current ingredients and if you had made the older one before what are your expectations for the recreation.
Thank you for your response.

Okay so if yours are"pureed with juice" I'm not sure they are the Oregon brand which I believe are whole "tart" in water vs. syrup. So you need to know what will ferment and what will leave your cherry flavor? Or do I order the fruit from MB or get it at the local store?

Re: Question about MB Canned Fruit
Every Mr. Beer recipe that I have purchased that included a can of fruit, was a single 14.5 can of Oregon brand, which has no preservatives in it.lindseywinstead wrote:I was hoping someone could share with me the size (or quantity of product) of cans of fruit which normally accompany the Mr. Beer kits. Go to the source... They are 15 oz and light or heavy syrup. http://www.mrbeer.com/category-exec/category_id/91
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

My grocery store sells the Oregon brand stuff! I'm gonna have to add a cherry wheat to the queue.
Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain.
Quaintest thoughts — queerest fancies,
Come to life and fade away:
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today.
