Re: Barley Crusher w/ 7 lb.-capacity Hopper SKU# 43133
BC is a POS ... as is the <cough> customer service <cough>. What good is a lifetime warranty if the company is unresponsive? Cereal Crusher is far and away the better machine for the money. That's a fair point--I don't know anything about how well the Barley Crusher's company responds to warranty q...

Re: 2016 RCE jimjohnson/The_Professor -- Bragget
Added the "dry spice" addition to the Bragget in secondary today. The plan will be to bottle next weekend. Looks like the final Brix is 12.0. So the calculator tells me estimated FG is 1.020 and ABV is 9.5. I took a very small taste sample (room temp) and my first thought was whiskey, the...

Re: Louisiana weather
thats more than we have gotten in 4 years. 20 inches in 24 hours would wash california in the ocean Louisiana is getting washed into the Gulf...sea levels are rising, wetlands are becoming more wet than land, and the "boot" needs a cobbler. It's not just a "this flood" kind of t...

Re: Ottoberfest (Marzen Lager)
[emoji23][emoji14] I did drink it all in one sitting! Thanks guys for the kind words. @Jon I did fine with gelatin, and I actually forgot to add whirfloc to the boil when I brewed it. I updated my recipe locally on my computer to show the whirfloc addition so that next time I brew it, it's on the t...

Re: Louisiana weather
We're getting a good bit of rain here in Houston, but nothing like what's happening in parts of Louisiana right now, and nothing like the tax-day floods either.
Glad to hear you and yours are doing well! Please keep us posted.

The barley crusher is a fantastic grain mill. The lifetime warranty is nice peace of mind.
However, the Cereal Killer is a very similar mill, and costs less--but you don't get the lifetime warranty.
Either should do the job well.

Damn, that's scary as hell! Leigh, I am certainly glad you convinced her to go in. Is she doing well now? Thanks, She is doing well. Yesterday she actually said she feels better now then she did in the weeks leading up to the heart attack. She has more energy and isn't so quick to tire out. Glad to ...

Re: Lallemand London ESB
I'm hoping it's like Wyeast 1968--love that yeast!
But considering that S-04 does an ok job of pretending to be an ESB yeast, I'm pretty excited to see what this can do!

If it tastes half as good as it looks, that's a fantastic beer! Nicely done!
Did you fine with gelatin, or just whirlfloc in the boil and time?

Re: Testing Help Wanted
I loved the shoutbox on the old Mr. Beer Fans site, and part of what I loved about it was its simplicity. Everyone who was logged in could see it or post--there was no separate login needed. I wonder if it wasn't actually a chatroom, but more of a special BB thread that didn't show subject or sigs o...

Re: Lagunitas IPA Clone
The highest I've mashed is 157 for a stout. It was ok but the just ok rating I gave it had nothing to do with the mash (it was an ingredients problem). I've never seen a recipe with a mash that high. I've gone as high as 163* for 30' followed by a mash-out for low-gravity beers that I really want t...

Re: Temperature Control For A Newbie
You've gotten some great advice, here--if you're brewing american ales (IPA, APA, Porter, Stout, etc) or hefeweizens or etc, 64* ambient is a great temperature. That's step one to brewing great beer. Step Zero is sanitation. Just be sure to clean everything thoroughly THEN sanitize. Other than that,...

Re: Jon--Brewer Of The Month August 2016
Congrats Jon, now the brew thingy will have been in your hands twice in 2 different states. Now was it uphill both ways in the snow while blowing 60mph in your face and your boots were filled with wet concrete? No, that was just walking to school! But seriously...having lived in Pittsburgh, I...
