Re: A question ...
I'll second Inkleg's comments, with a couple additions. With the score that you received, chances are very good that your beer went into a mini Best of Show (unless you were in a small flight). Once there, scores are irrelevant. In fact, some competition coordinators encourage judges to upgrade a wi...

Re: The No Post Post
Good to touch base with you all. I didn't want to seem unsociable and just disappear again, so I wanted to acknowledge everyone's replies. I'm getting dragged to a wedding far away. I hate traveling. Probably be stopped up for a week. Ugh. There better be beer there. And hookers. Oh wait, no money. ...

Re: The No Post Post
I hope you guys are teasing. Since three medals are presented to every flight in competitions, and there were only two beers in it. I was kind of a shoo in. It's sort of like congratulating a baby for pooping in his diaper. Meant to be a bit of an absurdity on my part; but then, my wife does tell me...

Re: Another perspective on judge's sheets
Mashani makes a very good point, although I would qualify it somewhat. Everyone perceives certain aromas and flavors differently, and in varying degrees. I personally have a tough time perceiving subtle esters, and I'm really bad at differentiating between different hop varieties, although I get the...

Re: My 10BBL Brew Day in Pictures
Very nice. The Schooner is a tough competition. Same number of mediocre beers as any other, but it also attracts some VERY good brewers from all over the place. I have yet to place in that competition, even with a couple of beers scoring over 40 (If they'd let you judge categories you're entered in,...

Re: Let's name some names
Interesting to check out the Borg after so long and find this thread. Sometimes life, new hobbies etc. get in the way. As for me, still brewing. Still looking for the perfect recipe. Still hoping for that Best of Show one day (although I'm trying to think of a good beer for a Worst of Show category ...

Re: My 10BBL Brew Day in Pictures
The things a Mr. Beer kit can lead to... I haven't been following in a while; what competition was that? A BOS? I should probably know since I try to keep up on the local competitions. Just an FYI, there are a lot more crummy beers in the Longshot competition than you would think, and surprisingly f...

Re: 2014 Midwinter - the results are in!
Congratulations Russki! I noticed the winner with a Slavic sounding name from Club Wort on the website, and wondered if it was you. Was waiting to see if you posted to congratulate you! Nice job. I scored a 38,5 with my specialty beer (a low gravity, 3.5% APA), but alas, it was cut from the mini BOS...

Re: 2014 Midwinter Homebrew Competition
You should take some pictures and do write-up on the inner workings of a competition for the Borg! I was looking at Charlie Orr Memorial as well - I may enter depending on what I have ready to go. My brew club is Club Wort - we meet at Durtie Nellies in Palatine. It's a smaller group, and we're not...

Re: Does this look infected?
Nice. How long are you planning on letting it sit? Our club did a barrel aged sour a year ago (sort of a bastard mix of a Flanders brown and red) that we're planning on taking out in around six months or so, but I haven't been adventurous enough to brew one on my own.
